Food and Drink
The food in Zakopane is excellent and the drink is always plentiful!
A night out in one of the local restaurants and many buzzing bars is not to be missed. Here is a selection of our favourite restaurants which we return to, time and time again:
Mala Swiecjaria
Situated on Zamoyskiego, it is lit up with fairy lights all year round and is very pretty. Most of the staff speak English. It is a good idea to make a reservation in high season, but most of the time there are free tables. Try the chocolate fondue – we usually do, just to make sure that the standard hasn’t slipped!
Sopa
Situtated on Koscielska, No 52, almost hidden down and track, this traditional style restaurant has a menu with a twist. Sopa is very popular for local weddings and celebrations so it is worth checking in advance that they have tables available. The steak with grilled cheese is delicious.
Kolibecka
One of the smallest restaurants in Zakopane has the reputation with the locals as one of the best restaurants for traditional food. Not far from the centre it is convenient for the bus and plenty of car parking nearby. It is not possible to book but tables often become available after a short wait, and the wait is worth while.
Prszy Mlynie
This large restaurant has been built from an original mill building and is warm and cosy and full of character. The food and ambiance is great. Booking not necessary.
Nosalowy Dwor
Just across the road from the Nosal ski slope, this beautiful building houses a very good restaurant. It is a good idea to book in high season as it gets very busy. On the top floor there is a play area for children, which makes it very popular for families.
Bakowa Zohylina
Part of a good group of restaurants, they offer good food and a very traditional experience usually with live highland music.
Also there are plenty of excellent cake shops (Cukiernia) in Zakopane and we can recommend Samanta cake shops of which there are fortunately a few!
